Believe it or not, I am one of those rare Kossacks who is not bothered in the least by ads. Sometimes, I even look at them. So, not that you were thinking of it, but don't waste your money gifting me with a lifetime subscription.
But in my capacity as a blog administrator (though hardly an important one) for the Readers and Book Lovers group, I can think of two members who might appreciate the gift more than me.
Their names are Ellid and SensibleShoes.
More below the fold:
Disclaimer: I have no idea whether either would want a subscription, and have not discussed this with either of them.
There was a time when I was essentially a lurker at Daily Kos. I know, every once in a while, I would throw a pebble of a diary into the waters, leaving barely a ripple. As one who generally dislikes meta, I essentially absented myself from pie fights, beyond an occasional tut tut if folks got out of hand.
That all changed with DK4. I have published, by a large quotient, more diaries since the inception of DK4 than I did in the several years before combined. A lot of that is due to my membership in the Readers and Book Lovers group. For those who don't know about that group, it is the largest and most prolific group at Daily Kos.
Now, there are several members of that group who deserve praise for their efforts (you know who you are. And if you don't, you should.) But when I looked at a list of members who regularly contribute to the group, I found two who do not subscribe, who are worthy of a lifetime subscription.
First (alphabetically) is Ellid. Ellid published a wonderful weekly diary series entitled Books So Bad They're Good. It comes out on Saturday evenings, usually around 9PM. Check it out. She is a terrific writer, with a wonderful sense of humor. Ellid has been a member since 2007.
SensibleShoes has been a member since 2004. I don't know if SS is male or female, not that it matters. What I do know is that SS, who is a published childrens' author, publishes a terrific series on Thursday nights at 8 called Write On!. If you have thoughts of becoming a professional writer, or even if you just want to read about writing or participate in interesting writing exercises, check out the series. You will not be disappointed.
There are countless Kossacks who could use a "scholarship". I am certain that, even within the small world of Readers and Book Lovers, I have missed some that I would regret missing. But these two Kossacks are eminently worthy. And since the only money I have to spare this year (and it's a pittance) is going to NFTT, I offer their names for your consideration.
BTW, about NFTT: There's a brand new diary just up on this. Have your donation matched, or even have money contributed if you only recommend the diary. Go for it.
I know, it's crass to write a diary thumping the drum for a couple of Kossacks, especially who don't even know that it's being done. If it bothers you, write your own diary, and thump the drum for a couple of your own favorite Kossacks. I will tip and rec it, if I see the diary.
