Yesterday, in the midst of taking care of two family members who'd come down with the flu, I found one of those lovely messages in my e-mail from donotreply@dailykos.com.
I acknowledged it in a diary up at the time by SomethingTheDogSaid, with the intention of posting a diary as soon as I could.
Alas, when you are fetching things and taking people to the doctor, you tend to be exposed to whatever it is that is bugging them, and so shortly after posting that comment, I found myself suffering from the same flu bug that they had been fighting. By now, they are both feeling much better, and I'm beginning to feel a little bit better myself.
That means it's time for this diary that thanks my anonymous benefactor.
I'm not much of a diary writer, and I tend to stay away from the main page articles, at least for commenting, so while I'm delighted to have received this because there is no way I could afford the lifetime subscription before the deadline, I'm a little surprised that I've somehow touched someone enough to get such a truly great gift.
I'm certainly not the most deserving of those of us who have received this gift, both because I don't diary much, but also because I'm not the worst off of everyone who is part of this wonderful community. That being said, I'm amazed at the number of these gifts that are being given out at this time. I'm hopeful that there will shortly be a effort made for those of us who can't afford a full gift to be able to contribute a little something to someone else to have the thrill of a lifetime subscription.
It's been a tough year at the W house, yes, but thanks to the many wonderful diary (posts?) here, I've been able to muddle through all of the tough breaks that were thrown our way these last twelve months or so. When I look back to what our family had just ten years ago, I'm amazed at how much we've lost. And our story is just a small microcosm of what has occurred over and over and over again in those same ten years.
But yesterday afternoon, when The Younger W (now 17 and a wonderful young man) saw me with tears, he was surprised when I told him they were tears of happiness thanks to someone unknown here in this community. You don't know how much the gift has helped me over these last 24 hours, and will continue to make me feel so good every time I click on Daily Kos. As of right now, I think that I have two tabs open on each of two computers right now to different diaries and the main page. Yes, I'm addicted to this place, having survived the earlier upheaval this year thanks to a couple of people hear, especially dear Nurse Kelley. She is also the person responsible for most of the few diaries I have written here. Kosability, NFTT, Sunday Bread, and a few other places have become a way for me to cope with life in the real world.
And so now, I most heartily encourage those that can afford it to subscribe. For those of you who have money issues like so many of us, I encourage you to contact Onomastic (or whoever is handling the list now) and add your name to the list of possible gift recipients.
And, one more time, a hearty and wonderful THANK YOU!!! to my anonymous benefactor. You really don't know how much this has meant to me.
