Business flows like water – downhill toward its singular destination of maximum profits – utilizing whatever channels are open to it.
If that description of business sounds very impersonal, it is because the nature of business is very impersonal. Companies are not in business to be kind to anyone – customers, employees, suppliers, the general public, and sometimes not even their stockholders (think of the recent bankruptcy filing of AMR, parent of American Airlines).
