In the face of a massive public boycott over its support of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), a few days ago GoDaddy withdrew its previous endorsement of the legislation.
Now, as customers continue to leave by the tens of thousands, GoDaddy has issued a statement clarifying that it also does not support the Senate version of the legislation, the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA).
"Go Daddy does not support the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA). While Go Daddy does believe in the need for protection of intellectual property and personal information on the Internet, it is important to find an approach that works for all users."
The Graphic Artists Guild also withdrew its support of SOPA today, adding to the growing list of organizations who have done so.
There is clearly momentum to defeat SOPA and PIPA, but these bills are still far from dead and continue to pose an existential threat to the social internet.
Please, email your senators and tell them to oppose the PROTECT IP Act. The first Senate vote on PROTECT IP is currently scheduled for Jan. 24.
