Why am I making two more readers lifers?
Because I freaking love this place. It has become a huge part of my life. A typical day starts by opening my laptop, checking my email and then going directly to my Daily Kos stream to read all my favorite writers, all without getting out of bed. I often find myself, hours later, without coffee and starving. Only the physical hunger tears me away from my other appetite for writing to my friends and reading their words.
I visit Daily Kos every day, several times a day.
Education and Activism
In 2004 when I first started reading here I began bonding with my favorite writers through their words alone. I loved being able to ask them questions. I appreciated the comment threads because misinformation was quickly pointed out or important details were added to the topic. Many writers provided handy links and instructions to act and made it easy for me to be effective, a beginning activist. I made Daily Kos the first place I visited online each day.
Community
This is the only blog that has given us the ability to create groups, to build communities. There are hundreds of groups and many are doing excellent work such as raising funds to help various causes or promoting political action. There are amazing individuals like Nurse Kelley and Sara R who rally our hearts around attending to Kossacks who are ill. These life events bring us together. Our finest moments have been providing real emotional support for each other.
No other blog makes it as easy as Markos does for us to organize.
I've built two communities:
Native American Netroots: I'm proud of the forum we have here to bring awareness to chronically under reported American Indian issues. Our team is often on the Recommended list. i think we're making a difference.
SFKossacks: We have almost 300 members and meet often for potluck and dinners to entertain visiting Kossacks.
It's an honor and a pleasure to maintain these two groups.
You can also build a community.
Netroots Nation
It is simply my favorite event of the year. One of my all time favorite Kossacks Gina Cooper ran with her idea of gathering us all into meat space with our first convention in 2006. I had so much fun that I've never missed a single convention since. Now Raven Brooks, Mary Rickles, Nolan Treadway and Karen Kolber have continued the tour de force that is Netroots Nation. I honestly cannot wait to see everyone again in Providence and I hope to meet many more new people.
Browsing through my diaries will produce several massive photo recaps of of each event.
Follow me if you don't want to miss the resulting photo diaries from this coming June. I have many more photos at my Netroots Nation Conventions collection.
Not only do we have this amazing forum but also the ability to meet in person, to bond and have the important tangible experience of heartily shaking a hand, hugging your heroes and celebrating in person this wonderful place that is Daily Kos.
If you love Daily Kos as I do consider subscribing to making this blog an even better place to participate.
