A little over 32 years ago I was born in a Lakewood, New Jersey hospital. Mom and dad were living with family down there at the time, for a few years... one of my sisters was born there and then shortly thereafter we moved back up to North Jersey. Where both sides of my family, Irish and Jewish, made their home here in this country from their motherlands. The former in the early 1800s, the latter in the early 1930s.
Passaic, my favorite small city in the world.
Anyway, back to Lakewood. My first childhood memory was around 3, staring out the window of my aunt's house right before mom and dad took me by the shoulder and brought me out to the moving truck, with my infant sister, and drove us about an hour up the Parkway to 154.
LAKEWOOD -- Police arrested five people — three adults and two juveniles -- charging them with bias intimidation after an egg throwing rampage targeted Orthodox teens, said Police Chief Robert C. Lawson.
This incident was not included in my diary from Monday, as it just happened last week.
The fold, hop with me youze all...
I'm regularly told here that antisemitism is no longer a problem, that we shouldn't worry about it, or even that we're to blame for it.
Also, that -
i'd suggest it was because of the history of usury laws and the jewish presence in banking throughout the years
Yeah, perhaps I'm in the minority here but I don't think that I quite agree that hatred of Jews is due to, you know, some of us being involved in banking or something.
it garners accusations of anti-semitism to say so.
Actually, claiming that hatred of Jews is due to "Jewish bankers" garners accusations of antisemitism because it IS antisemtism, but hey maybe that's just me. I hope more than a few of youze agree.
Oh, but we're not done yet. I can't post a diary on antisemitism in America without being "asked" -
it is valid to ponder the origin and nature of the rise in anti-semitism; how better to combat it?
No, actually it is not valid to "ask questions" about whether antisemitism is acceptable in the United States of America, or anywhere else in the world, regardless of what Israel does or does not do.
As a life-long member of the Left, I'm completely disgusted by this and I can certainly say without a doubt that I do not and have not ever seen such bias on display against any other group of people in the world. Let alone the venom spewed here against Jewish posters, who make up, along with African Americans, the backbone of Democratic political support.
Yet this is what we have to deal with when posting a diary like this at Daily Kos. From someone in my earlier diary, who sent me an email two days ago -
Let me tell all of you very loud and clear. First (0+ / 5-)
of all you are all a bunch of cowards. You are the kind of people who, if someone rubs you the wrong way, you go running like a bunch of little school girls to some authority - help me, help me, get rid of that bad man. You are a pathetic bunch. Absolutely pathetic. You are nothing but bunch of scared dumb asses who immerse yourselves in your own self misery. If I were a Jew I would be ashamed of you. Ashamed !
Many people have hatred for and have persecuted blacks. They were once slaves. But at least they have a little dignity and don't sit around commiserating about it like a bunch of old women worried about it.. So according to you there is all this antisemitism going on in the world and escalating. Well, it certainly would not surprise me if people like you are representative of Jews. I mean, who the hell would respect people like you, you bunch of cowardly misfits. You sit around crying about the hatred for Jews not knowing that people like yourself are the cause of it; nothing more than a bunch of whining little crybabies. You make my skin crawl with disgust. You have about as much worth to the human race as a bunch of little maggots..
And one last word in case your little band of pathetic Jews
arranged to have me kicked off this site, which I don't doubt FUCK YOU ! FUCK YOU where you breathe and FUCK you for ever hereafter

Yes, that user has been banned, but why was he even in the position to make that comment after he suggested, several months back, that a Jew should be sent back to Nazi Germany to die?
This is the environment we have to deal with here.
And yet when I complain about things like this (sadly, this is by no means the worst thing I've seen here), same as with many of my friends here, we are either ignored or (most likely) end up permanently NR'ed.
This is the environment created here that we have to deal with. Is anybody listening? Is anybody paying attention to the fact that minority groups are leaving in floods? Does anyone care? They sure don't care when I bring these things up, at least.
How about you?
