Gratuitous pic of who Mittens really wants to pander to.

What does Willard Mitt Romney have to do to secure the Republican nomination for 2012? He has to pander to the hard right and that is costing him support amongst those who are not knuckle dragging Limbaugh worshippers.

President Obama now leads Romney 3 to 1 amongst Hispanic voters.

Romney is becoming so increasingly desperate to prove to the Republican Primary voters that he is a "True Conservative" that he is now attacking a key element of the constituency that is essential to deliver 2012 to the Republicans.

Months of violently extreme anti-immigrant rhetoric from the GOP and Romney in particular appear to be delivering President Obama a landslide among Hispanic voters.

George Bush won 40% of the Hispanic vote in 2000. By 2008, John Mccain could only secure 31% of their support. In 2011 President Obama beats Romney 3 to one on polling Hispanic voters.

The Washington Post Reports:

Obama leads Romney by 68 percent to 23 percent and Perry by 69 percent to 23 percent among Hispanic voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 5.2 percentage points for the sample.

The president’s strong position with Latino voters comes even as Hispanic adults overall express disapproval with the way his administration is handling deportations of illegal immigrants, by 59 percent to 27 percent. (The margin of error among adults is plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.)

The United States has deported more than 1 million illegal immigrants under Obama, removing an average of nearly 400,000 per year — a record rate that has drawn criticism from immigrant advocates who charge that the policy is tearing apart families and punishing harmless workers. Administration officials have said they are targeting criminals for deportation.

Here's why

Yet again Romney playing to the base that the common decency of the DREAM Act would just cause more illegal immigrants. Only in the mind of a Republican could anyone ever expect people to support you when over that last two years you have been upping the anté on the hate.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
