One of the only "advantages" to having registered as an Independent when I moved to Iowa in 2008 was that my landline is getting the workout of its life.
The past few days it has been ringing off the hook with calls from pollsters and hyper-cheery or super scary messengers from various campaigns.
Marcus is leaving a message as I type this.
While I've decided to do the right (to me) thing and officially register as the Yellow Dawg Democrat that I am so I can attend my caucus, I will admit it is not beneath me to mess with their polls by providing the most nonsensical preference answers I am able to imagine (sorry, PPP) when those come in.
Yesterday, or maybe the day before (it's all a big blur here in Iowa right now) I got to join in an unscheduled Newt Gingrich teleconference and was oh-so-ready with a question I thought might get past the screeners. Because so much of the call was about the negative onslaught the poor dear had endured at the hands of anonymous SuperPacs, I wanted to ask him about activist Judges and whether he might consider arresting Scalia, Thomas, Roberts, etc for their Citizens United ruling and then remind him of some of the things he had encouraged fellow Republicans to call Democrats, like "treasonous" that made him the undisputed Godfather of Negativity.
Lo, I never made it through the queue, and simply got to listen to a lot of whining and lies about the Keystone Pipeline.
About an hour ago the call I was worried would never come, in direct response to the latest amazing phenomena, as Philly.com bluntly put it "Santorum Surges From Behind" finally came.

Because it may fly too far below the radar to break through to the MSM at this late date, I transcribed below the squiggle to share with my Kos Brothers and Sisters.
Pleasant lady voice:
Before you go to caucus on Tuesday night, you might want to ask yourself if you reallyknow Rick Santorum's record. He voted to send, literally, hundreds of millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider.
His PAC has given over $124,000 to explicitly pro-abortion candidates, and this was PAC money raised from pro-life conservatives and given to the very same Republicans who worked to kill pro-life legislation.
Remember when Arlen Spector was facing a tough Republican primary a few years back against a pro-life conservative? Santorum came to Spectors aid.
Just listen to his own words:
"I've heard people say that they think Arlen Spector is a liberal. Well, let me tell you, I'm proud to endorse him..."
Once re-elected, Spector switched parties and worked hand in glove with President Obama to pass an anti-life ObamaCare scheme.
Now, Rick Santorum is masquerading as a supposed alternative to Mitt Romney.
It was just four years ago he was endorsing him
That's why it's vital you call Rick Santorum at 412-965-4601, that's 412-965-4601.
Tell Rick Santorum to apologize for voting to fund Planned Parenthood with 100s of Millions of our tax dollars and for endorsing pro-abortion candidates. Tell him pro-lifers will not be fooled by another (garbled) anti-life fraud.
Authorized and paid for by Iowans for Christian Leaders in Government.
I did not call the provided number to tell Rick Santorum anything, or to check out who it really went to because I fear being put on any more lists, but maybe someone else will have more nerve.
I did go to the Iowans for Christian Leaders in Government website, which had a lot of anti-Newt stuff, but will not provide a link in favor of letting you Google it yourself, if you're so inclined.
Just don't Google "Santorum."
Update: I have gotten two more anti-Santorum calls since posting this. The most recent was from some "Right To Work" guy lambasting him for allowing Big Labor to destroy Iowa, funded by the Ron Paul campaign, and the other was a group who's name I failed to catch, reminding me again Santorum had endorsed Spector.
