Last night at 8:00 PM, independent media group Global Revolution's headquarters in Brooklyn was evicted by the NYPD. Their space was closed down and declared an “imminently perilous to life.” According to Global Revolution, the stated reason was a broken sprinkler head.
According to the OWS Media Team, five members of Global Revolution including Vlad Trachtenberg were arrested around 3:00 PM. They reported that the NYPD broke camera equipment during this raid. They were taken to the 90th precinct in Brooklyn, the media team said. According to some occupiers, they were planning to replace the broken sprinkler head.
GlobalRev operates a livestream channel, and has been broadcasting from Zuccotti park since the early days of the occupation.
The NYPD has been waging an intimidation campaign towards the press. They have arrested and beaten journalists, and have threatened to seize press passes. Reporters for The Other 99 have witnessed multiple incidents of violence towards credentialed press.
