A calling to all Kossaks who reside in or around the Kansas City area! I have begun a new group to act as a rally point for all news or activity in the KC area. It is my hope that the page can become a hub for discussion, calls to action, volunteerism, GOTV, news, and everything else relating to our little corner in the middle of nowhere!
The groups name is Kansas City Kossaks, so if you are interested, follow the group and hopefully it can become a force for good in an area that could desperately use a more liberal touch. In an enormously important election year, not just at the top of the ticket, but through every state-house and city hall, we need to be organized to make a difference.
Even if you aren't from the area, but you have something constructive to add, please share it.
A bit about me: I was born in Lincoln, NE, raised in Joplin, MO, and trained by my parents to be a kind, empathetic, and involved person in a part of the country where saying anything liberal is "fightin words". My grandfather was a major republican booster for many years, and I remember as a young child reading the hatred and vitriol that was vomited from the newsletters sent out by the conservative think tanks. It struck me as so vile, and disgusting, that I went to the University of Missouri to study political science so I could learn to fight back and part the red sea of propaganda which misinforms so many of those around us.
I graduated in August, and after a brief jaunt through Europe and a weekend volunteering and protesting in Zucotti Park, I returned stateside to find a job and begin a career. I just moved from a small farm outside of Joplin to a loft in the heart of downtown Kansas City on New Years Eve, and I am currently adjusting to my new concrete surroundings. I hope to either meet or create many Kossaks and other politically like-minded individuals here in KC, and feel as though creating a group may be the best place to start.
If there are any Kossaks in KC that manage to stumble across this, and you have any suggestions of what to do, where to go, who to know, what to read, where to eat, etc. in the KC area, I am all ears. I look forward to your correspondence.
Enjoy the group, lets make it something worthwhile...
Cheers,
Happy New Years,
Aaron "Sprint" Wynhausen
