As is widely known, the US economy added jobs this past month, beating expectations. Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich pointed out on the Ed Show that American voters care more about the direction of jobs and the economy than any economic numbers at one time. Now, the US economy has added more than 100,000 jobs every month for the last six months. The US economy has had 22 months straight of job growth. The US economy added 1.9 million jobs over the last twelve months. This past month, we added 212,000 jobs. If this progress on the jobs front continues, it would be very difficult even for good republican candidates to beat President Obama, much less this crowd of loons.
Let us recall that the President has accomplished this dramatic turn around in our economy (and yes coming back from losing 750,000 jobs a month to the present situation is dramatic ) despite the obstruction of many conservadems and extremely conservative republicans fighting him every step of the way. He has done this despite the public sector job cuts by republicans and serious troubles in Europe .
And let us recall who our likely opponent is and what his record is. His name is Mitt Romney, aka Mr. One Percent. Mitt's tax plan would hurt the poor, do little for the middle class, and grant three fourths of the tax cuts to the wealthy. He favors deregulation and repealing Dodd Frank. In other words, he wants to return to George W Bush economics. He has no idea how the rest of us, those who are not wealthy feel. Rick Santorum has made it clear that he does not even care about our perspective. Mitt was born to money. And as TomP , in an outstanding diary, reminded us today, Mitt has a record, a long record, of buying companies , laying off workers, leaving them and their towns with nothing, and selling those companies for millions. I believe that as Mitt Romney's record of buying companies, laying off workers and leaving them, their families, and their communities devastated, he will be done as a viable, electable candidate for the White House. The contrast being President Obama and The Corporate Raider, Mr. One Percent in terms of the middle class and the economy could scarcely be more clear. And that contrast should and will lead to President Obama winning reelection.
