During the past year, survivors of the January 8, 2011 shooting at a Tucson Safeway store have been active in working for sensible gun control laws. I know how deeply I was affected by the shooting, and I was just stuck in traffic while emergency crews dealt with the dead and injured. Survivors have suffered from post traumatic stress disorder - one recently described his reaction to July 4th fireworks - and have looked for ways to go on with their lives.
This morning I received an e-mail with the following video that I want to share.
I have written elsewhere about the way this tragedy has affected me personally during the past year, and about the event itself soon after it happened. This is a sad day, but also a hopeful one because it shows the human ability to give meaning to lives forever changed by tragedy, and to pick up the pieces when the world has fallen apart.
So in teacherken's tradition, I will end with the word
PEACE.
