In previous diaries, we winnowed a list of 60 vile Republicans down to 12; in yesterday's, I wanted to get down to 8, but we got 7 instead. So, the number one vote getter (Cantor) gets a bye. Then I divided the remaining 8 into four sets. This is the first set. I will put others up as I am able to; I'm doing more research for these and it takes time.
Allen West (FL- 22) is a war criminal (He carried out a mock execution of a local police chief he imagined (wrongly) was involved in an IED attack on his unit). he was fined $5,000 but (for some reason) was not court martialed. He has said that the Republicans must stop Obama's "imperial presidency"
Because he was only elected in 2010, West does not have a VoteView score.
Steve King (IA-05) approves of racial profiling. Only 11 representatives voted against aid for Katrina victims and King was one of them. While he approves of racial profiling when the police are arresting people, he does NOT approve of affirmative action to redress old wrongs. Here's what he said
“There’s been legislation that’s been brought through this House that sets aside benefits for women and minorities. The only people that it excludes are white men...Pretty soon, white men are going to notice they are the ones being excluded.”
(poor White men!)
When Iowa's judges voted for same sex marriage, King demanded that they resign. He also worried about Iowa becoming a "gay marriage Mecca" (hey! wait! Islam does NOT approve of gay marriage).
He also said that anyone who approved of amnesty for people in this country illegally should be "branded with a letter 'A'".
King likes lobbyists, saying
"Lobbyists do a very effective and useful job on this Hill ...There's a credibility there in that arena that I think somebody needs to stand up for the lobby, and it is a matter of providing a lot of valuable information."
According to VoteView, he is the 17th most conservative representative
