In previous diaries, we winnowed a list of 60 vile Republicans down to 12; in yesterday's, I wanted to get down to 8, but we got 7 instead. So, the number one vote getter (Cantor) gets a bye. Then I divided the remaining 6 into three sets. This is the third and final set.
Other pairs in the quarterfinals were Issa v. Gohmert and King vs. West. You can still vote in them.
Semifinals tomorrow.
Virginia Foxx (NC-05): Only 11 reps opposed aid for Katrina victims, Foxx was one of them. Foxx the voting rights act. Foxx opposed the Matthew Shepard act, saying that his death was unfortunate but that it was a "hoax" to claim it was a hate crime. This isn't surprising because Foxx basically denies the existence of hate crimes.
Foxx also said that "there are no Americans who don't have health care" and tried to add an anti-gay amendment to a defense bill. One more: She voted to allow emergency rooms to deny care to pregnant women.
According to VoteView, she is the 18th most conservative person in the House (of 445 total)
John Boehner (OH-08) - perhaps worst House Speaker ever; helped draft Gingrich's contract on America. In 1995, Boehner distributed cash from tobacco lobbyists on the floor. He takes essentially all the RWNJ positions. He is one of the largest recipients of lobbyist money - and he does what his masters tell him, like voting to allow companies to reduce pensions, preventing the government from making less expensive loans. Instead of working hard, he plays a lot of golf: about 100 rounds a year. And he often gets to those golf games on corporate jets.
Boehner knew that former rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) was molesting House pages - but he did nothing about it. And he campaigned for Rich Iott (if you recall, he's the candidate for the House who liked to dress up as a Nazi officer).
According to VoteView, he is the 76th most conservative person in the House.
