In this series of diaries, we started with 60 bad representatives. Now we're down to four.
The final four worst people in congress are Virginia Foxx, Steve King, Darrell Issa and Eric Cantor.
This semifinal is between Foxx and King; the other semifinal (Cantor-Issa) will go up soon.
Virginia Foxx (NC-05): Only 11 reps opposed aid for Katrina victims, Foxx was one of them. Foxx the voting rights act. Foxx opposed the Matthew Shepard act, saying that his death was unfortunate but that it was a "hoax" to claim it was a hate crime. This isn't surprising because Foxx basically denies the existence of hate crimes.
Foxx also said that "there are no Americans who don't have health care" and tried to add an anti-gay amendment to a defense bill. One more: She voted to allow emergency rooms to deny care to pregnant women.
According to VoteView, she is the 18th most conservative person in the House (of 445 total)
Steve King (IA-05) approves of racial profiling. Only 11 representatives voted against aid for Katrina victims and King was one of them. While he approves of racial profiling when the police are arresting people, he does NOT approve of affirmative action to redress old wrongs. Here's what he said
“There’s been legislation that’s been brought through this House that sets aside benefits for women and minorities. The only people that it excludes are white men...Pretty soon, white men are going to notice they are the ones being excluded.”
(poor White men!)
When Iowa's judges voted for same sex marriage, King demanded that they resign. He also worried about Iowa becoming a "gay marriage Mecca" (hey! wait! Islam does NOT approve of gay marriage).
He also said that anyone who approved of amnesty for people in this country illegally should be "branded with a letter 'A'".
King likes lobbyists, saying
"Lobbyists do a very effective and useful job on this Hill ...There's a credibility there in that arena that I think somebody needs to stand up for the lobby, and it is a matter of providing a lot of valuable information."
According to VoteView, he is the 17th most conservative representative
