So if you don't know yet, Master of Comedy Stephen Colbert's PAC is out with an ad. I will link you to it:
Over all it was a very good ad, with one problem. The ad asks us to vote "non Romney", and I disagree. Dispersing the Colbert votes among all the candidates will not be a good idea.
Here is the problem. It seems that we cannot pick our Lord Stephen Colbert for the South Carolina Primary ballot. It is too late to put him on the ballot, and apparently you CANNOT write him into the ballot. Here is what some republican official guy said about Colbert's attempt:
"There is no 'blank' space on voting machine to write-in a candidate. Stephen Colbert has as much chance at being elected as President in South Carolina as he does of becoming Pope. Zero."
We need to prove this random guy wrong, and show everyone the force of Colbert. However, I disagree with His Lordship's Super-PAC that we should just scatter our votes to the "non-Romney"s I think we are better off, focusing on one candidate on the primary ballot, to show them what an impact we can have. Apparently it is illegal for the Super-PAC to endorse a candidate, so we should do it for them.
Here is a sample ballot which lists:
Michelle Bachman
Herman Cain
Newt Gingrich
Jon Huntsman
Gary Johnson
Ron Paul
Rick Perry
Mitt Romney
Rick Santorum
So I do not think we should pick anyone who actually has a chance of winning (i.e. Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich). We shouldn't do this because frankly, I do not want to sabotage their elections. Secondly, I want to be able to say there were X votes for Stephen Colbert. His votes need to stand out from the votes of the people who honestly supported the candidate.
Also, I do not think we should mess with a guy who has no chance of winning but is running an honest campaign (i.e. Jon Huntsman, Rick Perry). That is just a low blow.
I think we should focus on people who are definitely NOT running (Bachmann, Cain, Johnson). However, I think we need to put one more layer of satire to the whole thing before picking a candidate. Bachmann and Cain both got tons of attention due to the "Squirrel!" phenomenon of the media. But Gary Johnson, poor guy, no one cares about him.
He announcedat the end of the Iowa Primary that he is seeking the candidacy of the Libertarian party and no one cared. I bet no voter even knows who he is. Johnson is apparently "excited" and "liberated" and "committed to shaking the system as it has never been shaken before" and... whoops, I accidentally almost made this diary about him.
Anyway, this is why we should vote for Gary Johnson in the South Carolina
This is why we should pick Gary Johnson. It will raise him into prominence in the most satirical way possible -the face of the ego-maniacal character of Stephen Colbert.
I suggest our slogan should be:
"A Vote for Gary Johnson is a Vote for Stephen Colbert!"
Next order of business: Fulfilling Colbert's dream of being Pope.
