A fine diary on today's recommended list tells of renewed controversy in Israel over whether ultra-orthodox Jewish men may enforce a sort of apartheid keeping women out of public life and riding in the back of the bus. But I haven't seen where anyone on dKos caught the response to this by some of the women.
In the town of Bet Shemesh, a flash mob of 250 women occupied a town square long enough to give a defiant and hip, in-your-face rejection to those who would exclude them from public life and equal status in their community:
This story of ultra-orthodox men demanding full access to public life while also demanding, on religious grounds, the right to segregate themselves from women, reminds me of something similar here in the USA. It's the way our religious homophobes and fetus worshipers insist that the are being religiously oppressed when they aren't allowed to foist their parochial obsessions onto others.
Keep dancing, ladies.
