Are you going to Netroots Nation this year? If so, are you interested in participating in or attending a session (or more than one session!) on voting with your fork? Read below for some possible topics and to suggest your own.
If you'd like to work together on a panel or workshop, let me know. I'll be on the conference call tomorrow about submitting a panel proposal & hope you will be too.
Here's the idea I'm kicking around for a session, but I'm very open to other ideas. A version of this session has been well received at several progressive events.
Ethical Eating: Save Money, Eat Well, and Make a Difference — Eating like it matters can help you save money to pay your rent, contribute to your favorite cause, or go to Paris. It can help bring you joy four times a day, with fresh, delicious meals and a tasty snack. Perhaps most importantly, it gives you a way to make a real difference with every meal:
* slowing global warming
* reducing your environmental impact
* helping your community economically
* reducing human and animal suffering
* helping people thrive on a very low food budget
Get practical cooking tips and persuasive talking points in this session. Take home recipes and an action plan to help your family and your community make the world a better place with every bite.
What do you think? We could have one or more discussion panels or demonstrations to interest a range of people, from skeptics to food activists, and a caucus gathering for Meatless Monday fans. We could even visit local green restaurants, farms, or businesses together.
How can we make this not just sing to the choir but get more activists to cook a pot of beans a week and at least observe Meatless Mondays? My strategy at Cook for Good has been to interest people by showing how affordable it is and then keep them with delectable recipes.
Are there folks you'd like to hear from? I've asked Beach Babe in FL and she probably won't be available. I'd love to hear from Jill Richardson, Marion Nestle, Mark Bittman, and Dr. T. Collin Campbell.
