I'm in the process of getting my first Evil Black Mankiller. ;)
Nah, just a light-weight rifle that will at some point be able to chamber a .300 Blackout.
Read on below...if you dare! ;D
Ok, this last Christmas was supposed to be giving the gift of firearms to myself and my wife. Unfortunately, all plans when in the pooper when the finances were needed elsewhere. Hard to store guns with out a permanent residence, so we got other things taken care of first.
What resulted from this was that instead of purcahsing a Rock Island Armory 1911 pistol, I started a lay-away for an AR-15 'stripped' lower reciever (the part that has the trigger, safety, magazine and stock, but without the internal parts which I would install myself). This is the only part of the AR-15 rifle/pistol that the ATF&E can regulate.
While I could build this as a pistol or apply for and pay $200 for a Usage Stamp to make it a short barreled rifle, I've decided to just build it as a rifle. Living in Missouri means that the state doesn't really care that I have the firearm as long as I pass the federal background check (should be ok, I passed one for my job). I will more than likely finish off the rifle with a pre-built 'upper' reciever (that's the part that has the bolt, firing pin and barrel) which I can later change the barrel of to fire .300 Blackout instead of the standard .223/5.56. I won't have to change out anything else and will be able to use the rifle for hunting as long as I buy 5 round magazines to be legal in Missouri.
Will I use this for home defence? I certainly do not plan on it, we'll have a pistol or two for that use. This will be solely used for killing paper targets, water bottles, soda cans and once it's the right season again I hope to take my tag limit in deer with it.
After my wife's citizenship is done, I am tempted to take advantage of the fact that we live in Missouri and set up an NFA gun trust. That would be so I could build a suppressed short-barreled rifle and allow anyone named in the trust to have the fun of shooting a .30 caliber 'pellet gun' while excersizing our 2nd Amendment rights as reworked by the NFA '32.
