A video seeming to show U.S. military urinating on dead Afghans has hit the media with a viral sweep (http://rt.com/...). While it is interpreted as an example of American distain for Muslims in general and Afghans in particular the central question was only belatedly asked by Luke Russert (son of deceased journalist Tim Russert) on CNN this weekend. Russert asked, "Why would anyone make a film of this and why put it on the internet?" This question has been ignored by most media talking heads and the entire spectrum of political pundits. The potential answer has to be searched for in the chain of self-interest, not in bad behavior as has been the usual answer. Who benefits from this act? Obviously the military-industrial complex suffers from the end of the war in Iraq and news of Obama's commitment to pull out of Afghanistan cannot sit well with them, nor can talks with the Taliban by other interested parties. Military contractors have made millions of profits from the wars. If anyone is to be examined for a motive it is these companies.
