On Thursday January 19th, there will be a crucial vote in the Appropriations Committee on AB 1148, the California DISCLOSE Act. This Act would require the three largest funders of political ads to be clearly identified with their names and logos on political ads. It applies to all TV ads, radio ads, print ads, mass mailers, and websites for or against ballot measures, and to independent expenditures for and against candidates. Link
The need for the California DISCLOSE Act (AB 1148) is obvious to all Californians who have been subjected for years to misleading ads for initiatives and candidates. AB 1148 will help us know who is funding these ads.
Remember, you can just leave a message if no one is available to speak to you.

Time is short. Please call asap. It will take just a minute. Also, if you can, please try to attend the Appropriations Committee hearing in Sacramento on Thursday.
Last week, AB 1148 passed its first hurdle, the Elections Committee Hearing on Monday, January 9! Now it MUST pass the Appropriations Committee on Thursday, January 19th or else the bill to show who really funds political campaigns is dead for now.
