I had a nice rant all built up and it disappeared! Oh, wait, no, there it is! It's all about Romney and his 15% tax rate. I can "understand" that. Srsly. He was born rich, raised rich, took over companies, ruined them, trashed the lives of real working people, invested all of the money he made because of all this and thus, whammo, pays 15% on "investment income". All while not making "much" on speaking engagements ($362,000+). A mere piddling.
My husband and I pay 25% and more. Depends on farm income, our family has owned a farm in OK for years and wheat is grown there. We don't live there, but my hubby's Grandpa bought it 50 years ago and neighbors lease and farm it providing a bit of income to us from the wheat.
So, back to my original topic. Taxes. I was born into a middle class family, helped work my way through nursing school and worked seemingly forever as a surgical nurse. I did love it, I must admit. But nurses don't make a truckload of money. After my divorce I augmented the nursing income by detailing cars on the weekend. Cars driven by docs I worked with during the week. I did this because I had to, in order to pay the bills until things settled down after going through divorce. Things did settle down yet even after, I still paid 25% in taxes.
I wasn't born Mitt Romney, rich, entitled and with no fear of going without the necessities, much less extras. BTW, I never tied a family pet to the roof of my car either, I'm too much of an animal lover to ever think of such a thing. I DID often carry my sack lunch to school with whatever we had in it because that was WHAT we had. I felt lucky to have that. When kids kidded me about whatever was in my lunch bag I would always say..."you don't eat (fill in the blank)?" "It's my favorite!"
Mitt Romney was born with a silver spoon in his robotic mouth and, it seems, he figures he's paying his share. Of course, he has no clue as to what most of us pay, we're outside his golden circle. Just like "dubya" who gave Romney and his ilk this largesse. Beyond that, Romney doesn't care what the rest of us pay, as long as he has his, he's good. And entitled. He SHOULD be President, by golly! He has worked for it, he's rich, he was a governor, single handedly saved the Winter Olympics in Utah, and IT's HIS TURN! Did you folks not receive the memo???
I would ask where Romney and his ilk acquire this mentality but it's a non-starter question. Born with it, entitled. Just like he and they think they've done their time and are now entitled to be our President.
I say no, not just no but Hell no. Romney wants to do away with capital gains taxes, he wants the tax burden on folks like you and me. He's got his! You lowly peons need to pay your share, get it?? He's entitled after all. Born rich. Invested, which many cannot even begin to think about, what with trying to come up with enough money to pay for heating oil during the winter. But by golly gee, Mitt has his and deserves to pay only 15%! He invested his money, made off the sweat of your backs.
Don't forget, he's "unemployed". We all empathize. Srsly. He's been "afraid of receiving a pink slip". Right! And I'm Queen Latifah! This man feels the pain, I'm telling you! He hurts giving up that 15%! Feel it!
President Obama may not be everyone's dream but know this, he is SOOOO much better than Mitt Romney. We have a hope with President Obama. A hope that he cares, identifies and is trying on our behalf. We need to once again get his back, he is our only hope to get through this recession, put folks back to work and prosper once again.
