At last! Someone realizes the turmoil is taking place in Nebraska over the TransCanada. And that it completely undercuts the political garbage that is getting spewed out of the Republicans in Washington.
Here's the link to the article at Crooks and Liars.
I happened to move out of the state just as BOLD Nebraska was starting to pick up the cause. But I did get to see a first round when a friend got the threatening letter from TransCanada, making a ridiculously low offer for an easement and promising that if it was not accepted "in seven days" steps would be taken "immediately" to seize land by eminent domain, a process completely outside the company's legal authority. They seemed like bullies then. They seem like liars and bullies now.
It was bad enough to drive my completely Republican friend nuts. The environmental issue just confirmed it. Yes, the issue was local (Sandhills pollution); no, he doesn't particularly care about global warming--but he might now because he's seen what liars and bullies do when opposed.
What idiots like Boehner and Gingrich are saying is that the state has no function here. Remember states' rights???? Their responses are just pointing out the lies they continue to tell about states' rights, jobs, the whole nine yards. They are even willing to throw fellow Republicans in the single most red of states under the bus, just so they can score points off Obama.
I doubt this will be enough to flip the state blue. But I know at least one fellow in the eastern Sandhills who is rethinking his allegiance.
