Dear Mr. President:
Not surprisingly, John Boehner and other Republicans are criticizing you for delaying approval of the Keystone oil pipeline. Aside from the jobs issue, they say we need the pipeline to help "end our dependence on foreign oil." You and I both know that's a crock of you-know-what, since it's apparent that the Canadians just want to get their oil to our Gulf ports so they can ship it around the world. They have no intention of leaving one drop of oil in the U.S. unless we're willing to outbid every other nation on the planet.
So, Mr. President, I suggest that you call their bluff. Tell the Canadians and the GOP that you'd be happy to approve their proposed pipeline after environmental impact studies can be completed, and with the provision that all the oil delivered through such pipeline, and the gasoline and other petroleum products derived therefrom, stay right here in the good old U.S. of A.
See what they say to that.
