Mitt Romney
The Dream Team? (Chris Keane/Reuters)

During an interview on Univision on Wednesday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney not only displayed a shocking inability to do simple math, he revealed that he's completely clueless on the whole concept of picking a running mate:
Jorge Ramos: We are going to open it up to the audience. Let me just ask you. Would you consider Newt Gingrich as your running mate?

Mitt Romney: At this stage, if he were the VP and I was the President, why, that's something I would consider ... I haven't made any considerations as to who would be my VP at this point. I think it would be presumptuous. I've got to become the nominee, first. And then I have to defeat President Obama. And then I'd get the privilege of having a vice president.

Uh, no. Granted, after the Sarah Palin disaster of 2008, one can appreciate that Romney would be scared spitless at the thought of choosing a running mate that would appeal to the extremist wing of the Republican Party, while at the same time not making himself look like a complete, pandering idiot (see: McCain, John), but that's not how it works. So be bold, Mitt. Excite the base.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
