Recently, the accused Norwegian "Christian" terrorist Anders Behring Breivik underwent another psychiatric evaluation and it was determined that he is indeed mentally able to stand trial for murdering 77 (mostly teenage) people. Apparently, Breivik is not psychotic or schizophrenic. Rather, his views and subsequent actions are the result of ideology, not delusion.
Rosenqvist [The psychiatrist] asked the 32-year-old whether it was not immoral to kill so many people. "He answered the question by saying that it was immoral to do nothing against the threat posed against Norway and Europe," Rosenqvist writes in the previously unpublished notes.
In Breivik's view, the alleged threat is an imminent takeover by Islamists. He saw himself as a "Knight Templar" standing up to Muslim forces, and regards himself as a martyr. "He says that Norway is different after July 22 and he hopes the differences in society are now clearer," writes Rosenqvist. "He seems very detached from his actions. It seems as if he regarded them simply as something that was necessary."
What "ideology" does Breivik espouse and what molded his warped worldview? Breivik desperately wanted to share his ideas with the world in the hope that Western Civilization would join him in his crusade against Islam. Everything is spelled out in frightening detail in his 1500-page manifesto 2083: A European Declaration of Independence (pdf warning!).
Breivik's Manifesto draws on a number of American sources. Probably the biggest single influence, with the most citations, is Robert Spencer's JihadWatch. But hate-blogger Pam Geller and "Islam-expert" Daniel Pipes also get special mention. Former Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan is praised for his "brilliance".
In general, though, throughout the Manifesto Breivik takes a dim view of the United States, believing that it, like Europe, has been ruined by "cultural Marxists". Breivik has nothing but contempt for President Obama, whose presidency only illustrates the "decline" of a once powerful nation:
There is definitely a personality cult surrounding Obama which is unprecedented and deeply unhealthy. His Marxist economic policies and his bow for the Saudi King are disturbing. I never liked Bush very much, but Obama’s appeasement of the Islamic world trumps anything seen since the days of Dhimmi Carter, and worse is to come.
Less than eight years after the Jihadist attacks on the USA, a President raised as a Muslim with the middle name “Hussein”hails Islam’s great contributions to American and Western culture. The USA currently looks more like a defeated nation than the world’s sole remaining superpower. It’s the only nation in history where the majority of the population has elected a member of an organisation known for hating the majority population of that country.
But Breivik is heartened by the hateful rhetoric coming from the GOP with respect to Islam and the Muslim communities in Europe and the US. He is confident that when his vision is realized and Muslims are forcibly expelled from Norway and the other EU states he will have the support of one of America's two major political parties:
Let us hope that the US (Democratic and Republican party) allows us, their European cultural and economical crown vassals, to liberate ourselves and deport the Muslims without them militarily intervening. We shouldn’t forget that we have many allies in the US including a sizable faction of the Republican Party. There are signals that might indicate that the US will not intervene militarily after we begin liberating ourselves in the coming decades. We must continue to work close with our US allies to prevent this from happening.
Who are these "allies" in the GOP? Was he thinking of New Gingrich, who warns that US judges are
seeking to impose Sharia law on American courts? Was it Rick Santorum, who wants to bomb Iran and who excoriates President Obama for supporting the Arab Spring? Was it Rick Perry, who called the democratically elected government of Turkey - a key US ally in the region -
Islamic Terrorists? Or was it Republican stalwart Pat Buchanan, who simply says that
Breivik may be right?
