In all of my recent following along about the worrisome lunacy of the GOP's materialistic agenda, perhaps I have not been able to lend due indication of my own personal support of concepts of rational culture. I thought I should set out to amend that, now - to the tune of a song by Zero 7, in fact.
The song:
That video is - on one hand - "low quality", but in some sense of neomodern postliberalism or such, I think it works as a nice pixillated commentary towards our own digital era.
The idea, then: It starts with Pandora Radio. From there, it becomes a matter of local bands, local music, culture overall.
I've been listening to Pandora Radio for a couple of years, now. I'm really impressed with the quality of their music selection methodology, and how it is based on Pandora's Music Genome Project. Somehow, it consistently results in the selection of music that I then find that I enjoy - and when it does not, rare though that is, there is the "Thumbs down" feedback button, right beside the "Thumbs up" feedback button, and how those then affect the operations of the Pandora Radio music selection algorithm, in one's own favorite stations.
Music, I consider, is a feature of culture. It soothes the spirit, whether during or after the nominal labors of one's workday. Not only is there that, then, but - in performance - music provides for a cultural center, in the broader social framework of the community. There are music shows at clubs, and the are festivals - all of those are community events.
I do not want to be too rash in suggesting too many matters of political organization. I would not want for the party to outdistance itself, in further adjusting to the political climate of the times, and taking up action in the interest of democratic liberty and the rest of those values that, not only may we hold those values dear, but they would seem to be necessary values to maintain within the national climate, to provide a necessary and peaceful ballast to the opposing, abject materialism of "the right".
I would suggest, though, that if the Democrat party is wishing to garner some more popular support, perhaps the party can begin to organize local festivals, including music and other lively fare - that it could be approached, then, in such a way as that the people would feel comfortable to relate to one another, and the community overall. In such matters, I would not be "too heavy" in representing the Democrat political identity, though it could as well be represented, from a basis of better and peaceful intentions, in such a way as that people might at least notice the party identity, as it supporting rational culture and healthy, cultural normalcy.
That, then, would be my idea, at this time - it would belong to anyone, though, who would take it up.
