Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI)
Remember Rep. Sean Duffy, the whiny Republican freshman who
lamented about just how tough it was to survive these days on a U.S. representative's salary of $174,000? The poor boy just struggles and struggles, and apparently thinks everybody should. He's introduced legislation that will be considered in the House this week to
extend the federal payroll tax freeze by another year.
The legislation is largely a rebuke to President Obama, who has proposed a 0.5 percent pay bump for federal workers, who haven't seen an increase since 2009. This bill is being fast-tracked, not even being referred to the proper committees as normal, but slated for a quick vote under suspension, the procedure they use for things like naming post offices.
So while Duffy and his GOP cohorts are busily protecting the tax shelters of their millionaire friends (and presidential candidates) they are gleefully sticking it to the people who work around them, those federal employees who are paid about 27 percent less than their private sector counterparts.
