The GOP Big Tent was shown for the fraud it is in the South Carolina GOP primary. Less than 1pct black vote when the black population is 27.9% of the SC population versus a national average of 12.6%.
A special shame-out goes to Newt Gingrich who's coining of the "Food Stamp President" epithet during that campaign must go down as a new low, even for him.
One must give full credit to the black population of South Carolina who clearly understand that, large though that well funded GOP tent is, there is no place reserved for them on the inside.
Shame. shame, shame.
Daniel Pearlmutter is a well published political cartoonist who has fearlessly skewered the naked racism displayed in the GOP primary in their Southern strategy, as dramatized in the South Carolina vicious verbal fight/Primary Campaign, between the candidates who vied for line honors using one kind of bigotry over another.
Religious bigotry, racial bigotry and the ultimate God of Money, all were seen to be fighting for market share amongst a purely white target audience.
I do hope that this has so turned off independents that they cannot bring themselves to support any of these people.
The latest poll numbers published in the NY Times suggest just that has already happened.
I will pay a back-handed complement to the GOP. After so many debates it is so different to the keeping of George W Bush in the closet before being elected. People did not know him like they have come to already know the GOP field. So many were taken in to some degree by the "compassionate conservative" fictional label.
It will be hard for any these folks to wear such a label and be believed by any but their party faithful.
