I don't have much time. This will be a drive by diary!
A member of Chicago rock band Survivor has taken legal measures to stop the Gingrich campaign from using the band's underdog theme "Eye of the Tiger," the Oscar-nominated song written for "Rocky III."
Frankie Sullivan, who wrote the song, wants Newt to stop using it. Not for a political reason, but because he hasn't paid for the right to use it!
Sullivan's attorney told the Chicago Tribune, which like The Times is owned by the Tribune Co., that the artist had reached out to Gingrich before taking legal initiative. "We've tried to deal with them for months, and they've been trying to ignore it," said Sullivan's lawyer, Annette McGarry.
So...they are going to court!
I love this bit though...the final paragraph goes through a list of politicans, all Republicans, who have run into trouble with unauthorized use of songs in the past. Proof that they don't learn from their mistakes!!
LA Times is on it.
