In response to the Susan G. Komen Foundation
decisions disaster, 22 Democratic senators
sent a sternly worded letter to the foundation, asking it to reverse its decision and restore all funding to Planned Parenthood for cancer screening and prevention.
But New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg showed them up when he announced a matching gift of $250,000 directly to Planned Parenthood.
Talk about putting your money where your mouth is.
It's too late for the Komen Foundation to undo the damage it has done to its reputation and its credibility as an organization that cares about women's health. With its new policy, its anti-choice extremist leadership, and its long history of questionable practices—including suing the hell out of smaller charities that dare to use the word "cure"—the Komen Foundation doesn't deserve a second chance; it deserves to be put out of business so that organizations that really do care about women's health can lead the way.
It's nice that members of Congress have taken notice and condemned Komen's unconscionable decision. But if they really want to help women, they'll follow Bloomberg's lead, check the angry letters and starting writing checks.
You can donate to be part of the matching fund drive here.
And then be sure to send an email to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to let its leadership know you're trading in your pink ribbons to support real pro-woman organizations.
