I found this on the website of the Seattle Komen affiliate. Things were going so well before the pink ribbon became radioactive.
Top U.S. Most Trusted Charity
Awarded Charity Navigator's Highest Rating for Fifth Consecutive Year and Placed in Top Two of Most Valuable Nonprofit Brands in Harris Interactive Poll
SEATTLE – APRIL 7, 2011 - Top rankings from the nation’s leading charity evaluator and a separate national poll this week reaffirmed the stewardship and trustworthiness of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest breast cancer organization. The local Komen Puget Sound Affiliate was founded in 1993 and has invested nearly $23 million to fund local breast health education, screening and treatment support in Western Washington and for groundbreaking research to find the cure for breast cancer.
Charity Navigator, America’s premier charity evaluator, reported that Komen for the Cure had earned a prestigious four-star rating for the fifth consecutive year, a feat achieved by only 5 percent of the nation’s nonprofit organizations. Komen for the Cure was also ranked by Harris Interactive as one of the most valuable and trusted nonprofit brands.
“This is an important statement to the individuals and partners who support our work to fuel the best science and make the biggest impact in communities all across this country,” said Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, Komen founder and CEO. “We believe that it is our responsibility to not only lead the breast cancer movement, but also to set the standard for stewardship of the funds that are entrusted to us.”
A fifth consecutive four-star rating from the nation’s largest and most relied-upon evaluator of charities assures current and potential donors that Komen for the Cure consistently excels in financial stewardship of donors’ funds.
“As the nonprofit sector continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, savvy donors are demanding more accountability, transparency and quantifiable results from the charities they choose to support with their hard-earned dollars,” said Ken Berger, president & CEO of Charity Navigator, in a letter to the organization. “This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Susan G. Komen for the Cure from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”
“Despite a tough economy, people still want to make a difference in the lives of others,” said Brinker. “Our promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever continues to resonate with people. And thanks to the trust we’ve built over the past three decades, we are able to continue our relentless pursuit of that mission.”
