This concludes, I think, my excerption of the stellar activists' presentations to the Oakland City Council on February 7, 2012 in response to a proposed resolution designed to restrict public assemblies and demonstrations.
At slightly over 18 minutes in length, the video isn't amenable to being transcribed by me.
However, I've identified the speakers and their salient points.
Joshua Smith tells the council their resolution is a conspiracy to murder--giving the police more power. Councilors can expect to be held individually accountable in the event of a death at the hands of the police.
Patty Rich tells the City to move its funds out of big banks, presents information on effect of port shut-down. Also enumerates problems workers are experiencing at ports--using the port of Seattle as an example. "You want to be on the right side of history or on the wrong side of history?"
Union rep, Fred Tacker (?), speaking on behalf of union counsels against the proposed resolution. Enumerates prior demonstrations over the years, including against South Africa and El Salvador.
"American tradition dictates that we express ourselves."
