Today after walking around the Chinese New Year Festival in China Town, I decided to stroll down to practice some blatant capitalism and do some "shopping" therapy. On my way into The Gap at the Corner of Market and Powell street I encountered the following:
Well not being educated on what was happening in Sri Lanka I decided to do the sane and wise thing and take my dollars down the street to Old Navy and bought a new shirt there, so I could educate myself on Sri Lanka and The Gap's involvement there and decide if I wanted to continue to support this old San Francisco stand-by.
I have been shocked by what I have found, and the world-wide call to boycott The Gap. I was most impressed by a British Channel 4 video on The Killing Fields of Sri Lanka which I have embedded! A Google search (http://lmgtfy.com/...) revealed a great deal of information about Sri Lanka and the Labor Practices of The Gap there.
After watching the video (embedded below) and reading the inforation on Act Now, and other sources (I really like the article http://www.tamilnewsnetwork.com/...) I think that I will join the GAP BOYCOTT and will be sending a a letter, as an ex-Gap employee, to The Gap corporate Headquarters, asking them to please pull out of Sri Lanka till there Human Rights abuses have been stopped.
