Ok, so I'll admit it. This is me with my puzzled face on.
I don't understand what makes Santorum a viable candidate in anyone's mind...let alone popular enough to actually win a vote for anything more demanding than janitor.
I keep trying to find a single likable thing about this man, and I just can't do it. He stands for everything I despise. (No, not dislike, despise)
He is the modern equivalent of the so-called "moral majority" with a healthy dose of batshit crazy thrown in for good measure.
How can the moral, supposed Christian, candidate justify being out throwing campaign parties while he's got a child at home who is terribly sick?
How can he, with a straight face, not recognize the irony of his own position on "religious freedom"? He doesn't support religious freedom. He's the poster child for intolerant evangelicals! Tolerance doesn't mean "My way or the highway".
How do voters not see that no matter how much he wraps himself in the flag, he's still supporting divisive, discriminatory policies towards anyone who's not a straight, white, christian male?
I just... I'm literally baffled here.
See, here's the thing. I truly believe that our President is at his best when his back is against the wall. I WANT him to have legitimate opposition. I want to watch him passionately defend his policies and ideas. I want to see that clarity of thought and word that we saw during the "Hope and Change" campaign.
But instead, they give us Santorum... and now the debates will be the equivalent of having a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.
And that, more than anything else, saddens me.
A loyal opposition should be pushing our leaders towards greatness, through ideological debates. I realize that might sound naive, but that doesn't make it any less true.
So what do they give us in opposition? Santorum...
Please, someone, in the comments here, help me understand what group psychosis, or infectious disease, or whatever, makes people think this asshole is a viable candidate for any office, let alone the White House... Because I just don't understand at all.
