In recent weeks, anonymous smear flyers were found in the district denouncing me for standing up for the 99%. These flyers not only attacked me but outrageously compared the 99% to flag burning and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
No candidate or their supporter has claimed responsibility, and I’m willing to extend my benefit of doubt to my opponents. But I’m calling on every candidate, candidate’s representative, supporter or endorsing organization involved in the race to hold themselves to the high standards our community deserves.
That is why I am starting a pledge today to run a clean campaign that is honest and truthful. And I request every other candidate in this race – Democrat or Republican – to join me in signing my Pledge for a Clean Campaign:
I pledge to honor the truth in this campaign. At no time during this campaign should any candidate, candidate's representative, supporter or endorsing organization distort the facts or spread falsehoods about any candidate's record. I have communicated to my supporters that I will not tolerate any distortion of the facts in this campaign because our community deserves better than that.

It's hard to imagine that Karl Rove, the Koch Brothers, and their corporate millionaire allies will not resort to distortions to try to keep the Republicans in power. But even our opponents must agree that voters deserve a clean campaign of truth and honesty based on ideas, values and issues.
