When I was growing up and hit my teenage years, the constant refrain from my parents was, "Don't be afraid to come home."
"If you get pregnant, don't be afraid to come home."
"If you experiment with marijuana and get caught, don't be afraid to come home."
"If you do something stupid and get arrested, don't be afraid to call us. Don't be afraid to come home."
I wasn't exactly a red-diaper baby but I was raised in a politically aware and very liberal household. I remember I was so excited at the prospect of reaching voting age that, as his present to me, I asked my dad to drive me downtown so I could register to vote on my 18th birthday.
Then came my first election. I was so excited as I headed out to participate as a voter for the first time!
My mom ushered me to the door as I left, and said, "If you EVER vote Republican, don't come home."
This is my anti-Hilarity diary. It has nothing to do with fainting couches or being a weenie. The majority of people on this site seem to be against the idea, and Markos is displaying, as has been said, a tin ear about it. We are giving republicans fodder for their conspiracy theories. We are wasting time and money on an effort that's both stupid and juvenile. Walker is ripping apart democracy in Wisconsin and we are essentially fiddling while Madison burns. Many people have made excellent suggestions on ways to better spend our resources, supporting the recall efforts in WI is mine.
I would like to see anti-Hilarity diaries continue to fill the Recommended list.
Markos, we are NOT our own worst enemies. We're telling you this is just a dumb waste of the power of this site. You should listen.
