And it is beneath my dignity to shout out a couple of expletives at Kos; therefore, I will take the high road and extend an invitation to Kos and Chris Bowers. Before I offer, here is a little background on my proposal:
Yesterday, I posted a couple of comments concerning Operation Hilarity. This is one Too much dignity to stoop to this level:
Too much dignity to stoop to this. (25+ / 0-)
I'm a yellow dog Democrat. Won't vote for Republicans. Voted today in Tennessee for Obama. Had two other people on the down ticket to vote for, it wasn't contested but they need my vote.
Do not give the Repubs a boost in their numbers. They are the least deserving of anyone's vote. Absolutely, don't give them any money or advertise to get voters. IF you want to make a difference, how about coming down here to Tennessee and take people to get their photo ID's so they can vote in 2012? There are plenty of people who voted during the Jim Crow era, who no longer can vote because of the TN-GOP.
Kos called out in his post: "Playing by the rules, and being our own worst enemy"
Yet there are always liberals who would rather pull a Feingold and lose, as long as we don't "stoop to their level" or somesuch bullshit. It's an inherent flaw in our movement, and one that has cost us dearly too many times in the past.
Seriously, I want fighters, not pearl clutchers. I'd rather have Sen. Russ Feingold in the United States Senate today, than feel warm and fuzzy that he kept his perfectly pure vow to refuse outside money during his reelection fight. Because you know what? I don't feel warm and fuzzy about Sen. Johnson. And the shit that ass will enable in the Senate ain't gonna make anyone outside of the Tea Party crowd and Wall Street feel warm and fuzzy.
I've always considered myself a fighter. I write letters to the editor, serve on the TNDP Executive Committee, serve as President of our Democratic Women's Group, long-time supporter of Democratic candidates, and always a Democratic voter in everything. I live in the South, where we face downright hostility and hatred from some of the craziest Republicans.
When they talk of "taking our country back", we in the South know exactly what that means: taking us back to the Jim Crow days. We have already seen what the Tennessee GOP Legislature is capable of doing in the short period of time since we lost the house in 2010. We have a photo ID law passed now. My friend, Charline Kilpatrick, took Ms. Dorothy Cooper a 96 year old life-long voter, down to get her an photo ID and she was denied for not having her marriage certificate with her. The paper work and few crowded places to get these ID's are designed to disenfranchise voters. Over 120,000 seniors in our state don't have their photos on their drivers license. Many of them, won't be able to vote even in Operation Hilarity taking place right now.
We also have emboldened gay bashing legislators who call for stomping a mud hole in transgendered people who want to use a public restroom. We have the "Don't Say Gay" bill in front of the legislature taking place right now. I could on and on, but why bother? I simply am not seeing anything meaningful in pulling a ticket to vote for Rick Santorum.
Since I am a killjoy on this operation, I suggest Kos and Chris Bowers come on down here to Tennessee this weekend to sell the idea to us. Our local Hamilton County Democratic Party is having a big event to honor Congressman John Lewis, it will be his 72nd Birthday on February 21st, so we throwing him a bash and doing a GOTV effort. This is the perfect venue to pitch your idea. There are two events one at Olivet Baptist Church in Chattanooga and St. Paul's AME Church. The Unions, gays, African Americans, Women, Yellow Dogs, Pearl Clutchers and all kinds of Democrats will be there for you to preach this great idea to, I can't wait to see Congressman Lewis's big smile. Oh he will be overjoyed by this idea! Years ago, he had his skull fractured by the same type of folks you are asking us to elect in the primary in Selma, Alabama. Yes, Southern Democrats fought hard and many remember those days. Several black churches, our B'nai Zion and my UU church were firebombed by the KKK during the lunch counter protests. We, Southern Democrats stick together because we share so much history and a common bond. This event on Saturday January 18th, will have all of us there in full force and unity. I would love for you to come to it.
P.S. Please remember to tell all the Democrats, if they pull a GOP ticket, they are disqualified as delegates to the DNC Convention in Charlotte this year. They probably won't care because they will want to fight for Operation Hilarity instead of going to this once in a lifetime event.
