I've been inspired by Operation Hilarity and realized that we need to do something on our OWN side this primary season. It's time to launch a write-in campaign for Hillary Clinton! After all, Operation Hilarity is only viable in a few states for registered Democrats.
Thus, I am launching a write-in campaign, in the states where it's viable, to "draft" Hillary Clinton to oppose Obama. Do I want Obama to be re-elected? Yup. And if he goes through a long primary, I bet he'll get lots of useful media exposure. Or he might not, and he might lose the election. Either way, it'll still be hillaryous!
Many of the opponents of Operation Hilarity note that a long, drawn-out GOP primary is quite possibly a bad thing. It exposes the nation to harmful levels of Santorum that we Americans do not need to be exposed to. It has moral and ethical ramifications that may require a Supreme Court decision to eventually sort out.
So, why not turn this around in the other direction, in a more constructive fashion? I think I've found a solution that can please all parties, perhaps. Really, don't you want to watch a bunch of debates between Obama and Hillary? It would be riveting, like nothing you've seen before. It would put the GOP debates to shame!
I can think of no better way to make the Operation Hilarity folks, the Primary Obama folks, and the general Kossacks at large happy than to officially launch Operation Hillaryty, so I proudly do so. I hope you will all join me in Operation Hillaryty.
Please, help us with a donation to Operation Hillaryty!
(Less snark continues below the squiggly Boehner-colored cloud...)
The thing that irks me most about the Operation Hilarity "campaign" is that it really has NO POINT. Seriously, what are we going to do, get a few dozen Democrats to vote Santorum...for a thousand bucks and change? (I tried to find an ACTUAL Operation Hilarity link to check the current donations, but after a bit of Googling, all I found were anti-Operation Hilarity articles...mostly from DK itself.)
I bet if you do the math, we're paying more than Santorum himself is paying for every one of his own votes! Really, the GOP primary contests are not set up that we can "break" them in any fashion. Not without millions of dollars. Does anyone have a few million to toss in to mess with the GOP primary? Nope, didn't think so.
Net effect: Lots of annoyed Kossacks, and derision from what-little media noticed, and the crazy right-wingers. It could have been worse, really; what if Fox News had picked up a story stating "LEFT WING LIBERALS MOVE TO STACK REPUBLICAN PRIMARIES!"? That would have been VERY BAD.
I'm not going to go into the moral and ethical issues more than that; thousands of other Kossacks have weighed in on all of it, and probably everything else I've mentioned as well. But seriously, we need to stop with the front page mentions, and stop the silly ad campaign. I realize we need to play some of the "not so great" games that the GOP plays, but this isn't one of them. Nor is this a constructive game, in any fashion.
At least we're united against something, even if it seems to be against ourselves, at the moment. I hope we can turn this into something constructive...as odd as it seems, I kind of feel a sense of "community spirit" with the apparent opposition to this decision. :)
