I know, I know. Rick Santorum is nuts. Not just nuts, but NUTS. Full-blown, 13th century, pre-Renaissance, women-as-serfs NUTS. And this will probably get lost in all off the other how-incredibly-dangerous-is-Rick-Santorum diaries, but it's gotta be said.
Just when you think he's reached the depths of women-as-serfs, he comes up with another gem:
Santorum attacks Obama on prenatal screening
WTF.
We've got a new definition of "religious freedom" in this country. Apparently giving women prenatal care is an infringement on Rick's freedom of religion:
He (Santorum) lambasted the president's health care law requiring insurance policies to include free prenatal testing, "because free prenatal testing ends up in more abortions and therefore less care that has to be done because we cull the ranks of the disabled in our society."
"That, too, is part of Obamacare, another hidden message as to what President Obama thinks of those who are less able than the elites who want to govern our country," Santorum said.
Um, Rick. I know that you and your fellow republicans don't believe in science or facts. But the United States is 46th in the world in infant mortality. Yeah. 46th. These are real people, the post-born, not pre-born, who are dying in their first year.
And how can we prevent infant mortality? Well again, we can use the Google. (I know you don't like it, Rick, but it's still a useful tool.) And you'd find lots of scholarly articles (intellectual liberal eggheads!) and even something from the CDC. Yes, I know to you and your followers it's just more pro-"Obamacare" government propaganda:
Promising Strategies (for preventing infant mortality)
Focus on modifying the behaviors, lifestyles, and conditions that affect birth outcomes, such as smoking, substance abuse, poor nutrition, lack of prenatal care, medical problems, and chronic illness.
That's right! Prenatal care can safe the lives of the post-born! But who the hell cares.
republicans?* You want to make stuff like this the center of your campaign this year? Bring it.
*I no longer capitalize the name of that party. They have completely lost my respect and with it any right for that word to be considered a "proper name".
