I am appalled, yet not surprised, that Congressman Paul Ryan chose to sell out Wisconsinites by voting to allow offshore oil drilling in the Great Lakes and the Everglades.

Our lakes are an economic engine and add beauty and majesty to our environment. This is too important for Paul Ryan to play politics with.
Because of the Great Lakes, anglers spend billions each year in Wisconsin. Tourists come from neighboring states and beyond. Wisconsin has nearly 175,000 Great Lakes-dependent jobs.
We don't want to become the next Gulf Coast with oil washing up on our shores. We don't want to lose our tourism and fishing. I certainly don't want to look at the lake on a beautiful day and see oil rigs.
I started my public service going door-to-door talking to people about the importance of protecting our Great Lakes with the League of Conservation Voters. I worked to help pass the Great Lakes Compact to protect the lakes from pollution. All of this work is being undone in a frenzy of drilling greed and unwillingness to support a new and different course.
I am disappointed it seems many legislators, including Ryan, have given up the fight for real progress on green energy because of the misinformation about climate change.
I support a smarter and greener American future, and will continue to advocate for the environmental issues that first got me involved in public service.
