I'm not too familiar with this Mitchell & Associates poll, so take it with a grain of salt. However, it shows Romney has recovered from this groups previous poll to retake the lead in Michigan:
Mitt Romney has regained the lead in a Mitchell/Rosetta Stone Poll of Michigan conducted for MIRS (Michigan Information & Research Service). The two front runners are now in a statistical dead heat with Romney (32%) having a 2% lead over Rick Santorum (30%) while Newt Gingrich (9%) and Ron Paul (7%) are far behind in a trial Republican presidential ballot test. About one in five voters remain undecided (22%). Eight days ago, Santorum had a 9% lead and twelve days before that Romney led by 15% in a topsyturvy race.
In their previous poll, they had Santorum at 34 and Romney at 24. I don't know about the quality of this firm's polling, but it seems to be in line with PPP, whom I trust. I know a lot of folks dismissed PPP's previous poll as an outlier, and perhaps it was to some extent. But I don't think that fully explains what's going on. Their poll, and this poll, mirrored what was going on nationally. Namely, a sharp trend upward for Santorum and down for Romney. Hard to believe Michigan was simply exempt from that.
I do believe that Romney's spending and organization are making a difference and that he continues to be on the upswing in Michigan. We shall see what the polls look like by the end of the week, but I suspect other polls will confirm Romney has pulled back into a slight lead. However, I also believe tomorrow's debate will be pivotal. Romney will need a damn good performance to push things forward.
