On November 18, 2008, bitter off his defeat to John McCain and McCain's defeat to Barack Obama, Mitt Romney wrote the article that could cost him this election.
When he posted "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt" it is unlikely that Romney believed the fiscally conservative stance would come back and bite him. It will at least once when Michigan voters go to the polls in Michigan on February 28 and will likely bite him again if he wins the nomination as Obama reminds America that the auto industry is rebounding nicely.
"IF General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye," Romney wrote in 2008.
Last I checked, both General Motors and Chrysler are looking better than they have in years and Ford is inching its way to the top from a profitability perspective. It's not important why or how Romney got it so wrong. The only thing that matters is that he did.
"Things would be completely different if there had been no bailout," said Tom Marris from Nissan Seattle. "It was a tough choice but for America and Detroit it has proven to be the right one."
Now, he's claiming that the industry would be in even better shape had their been no bailout.
Really, Mitt? Really?
"It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed."
The only thing guaranteed is that you won't be President of the United States.
