I pose the question as a way to try to tease out how much of the anti-Obama sentiment on the right is racism v. policy.
Which way would Republicans vote in a Cain v. Biden contest? Or would they stay away?
There is a core opposition to Obama that is purely racial (whether GOP is willing to acknowledge it or not).
So if you had a black GOP candidate up against a white Democrat, which way would they jump?
My own framing would be, an abhorent over-sexed moron who happened to be black v. a standard Dem who has an occasional problem keeping his mouth shut, who happened to be white.
I just don't happen to think that the moron/ non-moron decision drives the GOP in the same way the black/white difference does.
In the real world, I expect the GOP to unify for Romney as "not Obama," even the Gingrich and Santorum voters who wanted "not Romney," even though I would hope for them to just stay home.
