Andrew Breitbart has only been dead for 24 hours, and already the conspiracy theories are percolating. Yesterday, Michael Savage raised the possibility that Breitbart was rubbed out.
Savage played an audio clip of Breitbart telling an audience at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington last month that he had obtained videos that shed light on Obama’s ties to radicals in the early 1980s who helped propel him to the presidency.
“Maybe my overly active imagination kicked into overdrive,” Savage told his listeners of his decision to raise the question. “But you heard what Breitbart said – he has videos … we’re going to vet the president.”
Breitbart claimed he had videos showing Obama meeting with Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, formerly of the Weathermen--"silver ponytails," as Breitbart called them. Supposedly, those videos would show that Obama's agenda was really a masquerade for racial and class warfare. According to Savage, Breitbart met Ayers and Dohrn--who have been married since the 1970s--at their home in Hyde Park three weeks before his death.
Savage conceded that Breitbart may have finally succumbed to a long history of heart problems. However, he pointed out that it is possible for a murderer to induce a heart attack that won't leave any traces.
Knowing Savage, we've come to expect lunacy. This is, remember, a guy who publicly called for someone to go get AIDS on the air and is perfectly OK with desecrating corpses. But it says a whole lot about him when he would even make such an outrageous suggestion with no proof whatsoever.
Savage urged Breitbart's team at BigGovernment.com to put the videos of Obama, Ayers and Dohrn out as soon as possible--thus proving that the wingers are already trying to dredge up Ayers even though that tactic failed spectacularly in 2008.
While Savage himself is hedging about whether he thinks Breitbart was assassinated, at least one of his callers is convinced.
A caller from Savage’s native New York City said there’s a simple way to find out what happened.
“If the tapes come out, he died of a heart attack,” the caller said. “If the tapes don’t come out, they whacked him.”
Why do I get the feeling that we may have something comparable to the Vince Foster rumors on our hands?
