I know that the Blunt amendment is very unpopular around here, but as a large employer and also as someone who is very concerned about the future of the planet I am in full support of this amendment. I will tell you below the fold.
This planet is on a collision course--destroyed by our reckless use of resources and overpopulation. I find it to be morally unacceptable for any woman to bring more than two children into this world. I currently have numerous employees that violate my moral sensibilities with families of three, four and even five (!) children. I also have a number of employees with two children, but they are still child bearing age. The Blunt amendment will help me better control these potential moral miscreants. I would be able to design a health plan that would cut off all insurance that covered child birth beyond two children. While I know I cannot prevent them from having children, I certainly shouldn't be forced to pay for this highly immoral act. That should come out of their own pocket. For the love of the planet, support the Blunt amendment!
8:24 AM PT: Update: Based on the first few comments, I guess I have to write a clarification. This diary is an exercise in changing the focus. The reason the Blunt amendment is so odious is that it give an employer control over its employees medical choices, however, it has only been discussed in right wing evangelical terms (birth control, abortion, etc.) But many employers have many different ideas of what is a moral act and what is an immoral act. The idea that a zero population growth employer would see someone having more than two children as immoral is not completely farfetched. The logical extension of that is that he or she could, under Blunt Amendment rules, cut off health insurance to anyone wanting to have a family of more than two children. I am a third child, by the way.
