Thank Jeebus it's Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's time for "this day in history." On March 2, 1904, Theodor Seuss Geisel, who wrote and illustrated the popular Dr. Seuss children's books, was born. He also had a hand in some damn funny WWII - era cartoons! :D
On this date in 1965, the movie version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music had its world premiere in New York. And, "Captain VonTrapp" is an Oscar winner now! :D
On this date in 1985, the federal government approved a screening test for AIDS that detected antibodies to the virus, allowing possibly contaminated blood to be excluded from the blood supply - but not contaminated plasma. :(
Finally, in yet another absolutely horrid but not surprising SCOTUS ruling, on this date last year, the Supreme Court ruled 8-1 that members of the fundamentalist Westboro Baptist Church had a First Amendment right to picket the funeral of a Marine.
I wonder if they'll show up to Andrew Breitbart's funeral?
On with The Rachel Maddow Show...
{Due to DVR Spark Up, I Missed 1st 10 Minutes of Show, so Please Fill in Gaps of Any Missed Brilliance in Comments.}
"Scoop, There It Is" - Rachel gave a lovely little history of the Boss Limbaugh Show this week. How 'bout our POTUS calling Sandra Fluke?! :D He's banking on all of us being pi$$ed off; he is trying to be offensive and is doing admirably. Oodles of folk have come to Ms. Fluke's defense, and advertisers are beginning to bail. Rachel, he won't apologize. Rachel doesn't think Boss Limbaugh knows what birth control is. Again, as I said in the Countdown diary, he knows perfectly well what birth control is; all this ilk is red meat for today's GOBP who want to openly bully women & control their reproductive health and their lives. She thinks he thinks women pop a pill every time they have sex to avoid pregnancy. Again, I think he knows EXACTLY what he's doing. Did Rachel volunteer to have the "birds & bees" talk with Boss Limbaugh?! ;D We also got a review of Mittens' statement concerning all these personhood bills. Rachel also thinks Mittens doesn't understand where babies come from in the birth control pill realm. Rachel, I imagine President Obama gets birth control; one of his daughters will be a dating teenager soon. Plus, President Obama has a faboo FLOTUS in da' house! :D
"Unalienable" - The lives of citizens in 3 states have been made not fun since the 2010 elections. Rachel thinks what happened in MI was the most radical & dangerous. Public Act 4 affects over 700K African - Americans who live in MI. Some activists are trying to put Public Act 4 to a public referendum. :D 60,000 more sigs were turned in than what they needed; yea, I wouldn't put it past people in MI government to tinker with the mothers. Rev. David Bullock was there when the petitions were turned in. He had hoped race wouldn't have been an issue in the implementation of Public Act 4, but he knows he's wrong. It's all about class, too.
"The Interview" - Rachel's a TV - a - Holic. :) Oh man, she watched The Monkees?! AUGH! Peter Tork's in studio to talk Davey Jones' passing. Again, I just do not get The Monkees, and MTV used to play episodes?! ACK! Why do I feel like I'm taking acid watching all these clips? ;)
"Fuzzy Math" - There are more disputes about previous GOBP contests. Now, Man on Dog's pitching a frothy fit about the extra delegate Mittens got in MI. The WA caucuses are being pre - challenged by Rep. Paul's peeps?! HA!
"Getting Money Where the Money Is" - It's Rachel's turn to chat up Mittens 2002 tape about bragging about milking DC for all the coin he could. He's been itching at the other candidates about that exact practice. Mittens also got federal coin for the Olympics. Less than 10% of Mittens' donors gave less than $200 up to this point in his campaign. Mittens is trying to change that, now. He's actually plugging his damn website in speeches! Are any of y'all gonna donate $3 to Mittens for the golden opportunity to be a "special guest" Tuesday night? I'm pretty darn sure any $3 I have would be better spent on a cup of coffee. :D The wealthy will do quite well under Mittens' tax plan. The rest of us? Well... And, Mittens kind of has a perception problem with most of we, the people.
