I guess the GOP establishment is in full panic mode, especially with the recent Marist poll showing President Obama beating Mitt Romney (their chosen candidate) by double digits in Ohio. So what do they do - they trot out former First Lady Barbara Bush to voice robocalls on Mitt Romney's behalf. The call goes as follows:
Hi, this is Barbara Bush calling from Romney for President on behalf of my friend, Mitt Romney. The Ohio Republican Primary is next Tuesday, so I’m calling to remind you to vote for Mitt. I’m supporting Mitt for one simple reason: America cannot survive four more years of Barack Obama, and Mitt is the man to lead America, and we need him now. If you have any questions, just call the Ohio campaign headquarters at 614-664-3485, or email us at TeamOH@MittRomney.com. Again don’t forget to vote for Mitt Tuesday night. Thank you for your time.
This call was paid for by Romney for President, Inc.
Note that she can't say a single positive thing about Romney: The only reason she's supporting him is because "...Barack Obama." Secondly, this call is ostensibly about Super Tuesday, but she doesn't say anything about the other three GOP candidates. Why should voters pick Romney over Gingrich, Paul, or Santorum? Barbara Bush doesn't have a clue. She doesn't even know what about Mitt Romney specifically makes him fit to be "a man to lead America."
I say, Mrs. Bush, please get some class, and stop cheapening the office of the First Lady. You have the audacity to say that American can't afford four more years of Barack Obama, when he's busy cleaning up the mess that YOUR son left. When YOUR son was busy spending the country into useless wars, and giving CEOS big tax breaks on the backs of others, were was your voice? You retreated into silence while you watched America be led off a cliff. Who do you think you're fooling?
But thank goodness Ohio seems to be a lot smarter than you give them credit for.
3:51 PM PT: Update: It was brought to my attention that Mrs Bush. tweaked the script by declining to comment about the President. Instead of the part about Barack Obama, she said this: " We have known the Romneys for years and believe Mitt is the best man to lead the country for the next four years and Ann will make a great first lady." It sounds a little less crude than what was originally posted, but the gist is still there.
