They're going to have to print more of those signs this year.
Fox News has buried the topline numbers, but they can't ignore
what they mean.
Latino voters favor President Barack Obama by six-to-one over any of the Republican presidential hopefuls, showed a Fox News Latino poll conducted under the direction of Latin Insights and released Monday [...]
[T]he poll shows that the overwhelming choice among likely Latino voters is President Obama. In head-to-head match-ups none of the GOP candidates would garner more than 14 percent of the Latino vote come November, the poll said.
Now bizarrely, the Fox writeup doesn't actually include any head-to-head general election matchups. But since it says that Obama leads the GOP field six to one, and since it also says that the best a Republican gets against Obama is 14 percent, that would mean:
Obama 84
Best Republican 14
Okay, so it's doubtful that only two percent of Latino voters are undecided, but the general gist remains—Obama is just
crushing it with this demographic.
And it gets worse for Republicans:
While the poll indicates that four of five Latinos who voted for Obama in 2008 would vote for him later this year, Latinos who voted for Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain four years ago are now divided between voting for Obama and the Republican candidates.
Given that McCain only got 38 percent of the Latino vote in 2008, Republicans don't have much ground to lose amongst the fastest growing demographic in the nation. And yet there they are, losing it.
I've repeatedly said that Obama will get 70 percent of the Latino vote. At this rate, it'll be closer to 80.
But what about Florida Sen. Marco Rubio? What if the GOP nominee selects him as the veep nominee?
Almost one-quarter of Latinos said they would be more willing to vote for a Republican if Rubio was on the ticket.
Twenty-five percent? Assuming all of those Latinos actually voted GOP (a big assumption, since "more willing" doesn't mean they'll actually pull the trigger), that would mean that Rubio gets Republicans fewer Latino votes than McCain got with Sarah freakin' Palin.
Add this to the list of self-inflicted wounds the GOP has suffered during this painful nomination contest: Latinos are tired of Republicans demonizing them, and will vote accordingly. Take Cubans out of the equation, and Latinos are becoming as solid a Democratic constituency as African American, single women and Jewish voters.
