This is the text of the letter I sent to AFN asking them to withdraw support for
Rush. I have also signed the petition in and asked my daughter to
call all her friends to sign the petition.

I urge you strongly to stop carrying Rush Limbaugh in AFN.

Most people who object to Rush Limbaugh focus on his crass and coarse language. Such language is not new to the Armed forces and some legendary generals and admirals are known for their salty language.

My problem is not his language or word choice. It is his continual misrepresentations and lies he said in his program. He said, "She [Sandra Fluke] in her own words admitted to having so much sex that she could not afford birth control". Repeatedly. Many times over in so many different variations. Such character assassination by lying is totally unacceptable. I very strongly object to my tax dollars funding this liar.

I am very sure all the Republican legislators who pontificate that "Churches should not be forced to pay for things they morally object to" would readily agree that my tax dollars should not fund this "bearing false witness". I am morally opposed to funding lies using my tax dollars.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Truthful and to the point; great letter! (5+ / 0-)

    Thank you for writing AFN.

To me, the worst aspect of Rush Limbaugh is that rather than engaging ideas, he simply attacks, demeans, and bullies anyone who disagrees with him. His show does not educate or illuminate issues, in fact, it is filled with lies. All that he teaches is how to bully others. This is what good schools try to teach students not to do.

And the fact that Rush kept hurling that shit at Ms. Fluke for two more days after there was an outcry.  He knew it was too nasty and disrespectful, and he just kept going.

I've kind of got a problem with the whole "that's not what she said" thing.

    Technically, it's correct.

    Politically, it's smart.

But the thing is, I don't care if that is what she said.

I don't have a problem with women who are sexually generous (or greedy for that matter).  Frankly, there are a few of them who have really made my life more enjoyable.

And I am simply grateful to them.

    Full stop.

I had desires, and they satisfied them.

Am I really supposed to despise them?  Am I really supposed to distance myself from them?

That is problematic to me.  I know that this is not the fight that Sandra Fluke signed up for.

Knowing what I do about the sorts of people who do like these fights, I would never ask her to fight this fight.

For the time being, it is a loser.

But I still can't change the fact that that makes me sad.

It also makes me feel like a calculating coward.

I will be that if that's what it takes to win, but, I want to tell all of those women out there who have slept with men without being what is currently accepted as suitably chaste, well, I don't know what else to say except "thank you."

I just hope it was good for you too.

Ceterum censeo Factionem Republicanam esse delendam.
